'The Muppets' strike back at anti-oil slur

Miss Piggy takes well-aimed shot at Fox News

This one is straight out of the ‘you couldn’t make this up’ file. In a London press conference following the U.K. premiere of the latest Muppet movie, Kermit and Miss Piggy (for it was they) struck back at an earlier Fox Business broadcast that accused them of ‘brainwashing’ kids with an anti-oil, anti-corporate message.

Fox News already has a well established track record of beating up on the Chevrolet Volt as a liberal-left boondoggle, so taking on a couple of glove puppets should have been a walk in the park.

The Muppets (2011) movie features an evil oilman called Tex Richman and the plot revolves around the muppet heroes trying to stop him from gaining control of their old theatre, under which there are oil reserves.

In the Fox broadcast, Eric Bolling interviews Media Research Centre’s Dan Gainor, encouraging him with a leading question: ‘Is liberal Hollywood using class war to brainwash our kids?” Gainor responds: “It's amazing how far the left will go to stoop to manipulate your kids to convince them, to give the anti-corporate message."

At the London press conference, Kermit pointed out that “If we had problems with oil companies, why would we spend the entire film driving around a gas-guzzling Rolls-Royce?"

But Miss Piggy came back with the best shot, saying “It's almost as laughable as accusing Fox News as….. being news." To which Kermit responds “Boy, that’s going to be all over the Internet!” Piggy retorts, "If they take what I say seriously, they've got real big problems."

So yes, this was probably a cynical ploy to get a little viral promotion for the movie. And with 1.8 million views and counting, it seems to have worked a treat. Check it out below.
