YouTues: The furious sound of the Quimera electric race car

You might want to turn up the volume for this one…

If you’ve been following electric vehicle news for a while you’ll have noticed one of the big issues surrounds the noise – or rather, lack of noise. It’s been touted as a safety issue for pedestrians on the road and a problem for race fans, who count the roar of petrol-powered engines as one of the most exciting features. Well, this video of the Quimera AEGT pure-electric could give them the aural thrills they seek.

The AEGT is a 700bhp beast of a machine and, thanks to its three electric motors, total torque is around 1,000Nm. 0-62mph is achieved in three seconds and, because it makes use of gears (uncommon in electric vehicles), it can reach a top speed of 186mph.

The following video isn’t the original promo footage we’ve seen before, but instead a film uploaded by the Quimera Project team just yesterday. Due to the camera angle, it’s pretty dull without sound. But crank up the volume and we think you’ll agree, it’s a pretty fearsome-sounding machine. No doubt, this is a proper race car.
